I think you went a bit over the top with that HDR! Maybe tune down the reflections on the balls and add some ambient occlusion.

dont know why i cant upload anything but this is what i got...

I didnt use the reflection from inside a material. I used a HDR in a VRAY Dome Light.

what material did you use?? I have been trying for ages to get the material correct and i never seem to have any luck :(

Very simple... in 3d Max just change the Diffuse colour to what you want (I.e - Red) then give it a reflection map of RAYTRACE and under background use a bitmap map and choose an image such as the one I linked to in the comment below.

For the white.. it is just the pre-set plastic / Vinyl Material

you i never thought about using a bitmap in the reflection bit to give the ilusion of a scene i thought maybe you would have to use a hdri... well i will up once i have finished and see what you think. Thanks for your advice :)

In the program I told the material to reflect a picture as if it was the real environment :p [link]

Lots of complicated stuff and not a lot of actual artistic skill, haha
